Altela Receives $2M for Water-Purification Plant

Altela won a $2 million contract with a Pennsylvania firm to build a water-purification plant to service shale-gas operations in the northeastern Marcellus Basin. Noribachi Launches Albuquerque Solar Firm
February 10, 2010
The Noribachi Group is launching a new company in Albuquerque to build solar panels. The new firm, Solar Distinction Inc., says it will employ about 300 workers within two or three years, eventually growing to about 500 employees. The plant is set to open by year-end 2010, with enough operating capacity to produce 25 megawatts of solar panels, said Noribachi Partner Joe Gillach. Vertical Power Completes MOU with Bye Energy

Vertical Power has announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bye Energy, Inc., an integrator of alternative energy and renewable fuel technologies for business and general aviation aircraft. The two companies are collaborating on the incorporation of Vertical Power’s electrical power management system into Bye Energy’s electric hybrid propulsion system (EHPS). TruTouch Technologies recently has been focusing on reorienting its business strategy and recapitalizing the company. “To raise money, we needed to make the valuation attractive to the market,” said TruTouch CEO, Richard Gill. The company also re-engineered its intoxication-testing device this year, leading to a second-generation product in September that is much cheaper to make. Russ Hopper, LabStart’s entrepreneur in residence, envisions the joint venture’s efforts as producing the seed of a vibrant entrepreneurial culture in Los Alamos. Verge General Partner Tom Stephenson was the invited speaker to the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Albuquerque. The topic of his talk was "Venture Capital in New Mexico: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow." As one of the longest-tenured venture capitalists in New Mexico, Tom commented on the history of the industry nationwide and here in New Mexico, assessed the current state of the venture capital industry in New Mexico, and challenged the audience to become active participants in the private equity process.
